Generally speaking, windshield chips and cracks smaller than the size of a quarter can be repaired. If the damage is deep enough to penetrate through all of the layers of the windshield, it is too deep to perform a repair.

The windshield is responsible for up to 60% of structural support in the event of a vehicle rollover. If the damage extends to the outer edge of the glass, there is a greater chance that the structural integrity of the windshield has been compromised. If this is the case then it is likely that the windshield will need to be replaced. Also, some modern vehicles with automated driver assistance systems (ADAS) utilize sensors that may not be compatible with repairs.
